Together! (Samen in dutch)
A story describing my PhD
In a land far away, it is said,
There stood a king with a troubled head.
His kingdom wasn't as it used to be,
and his castle lacked modernity.
But worse than the castle, was the surrounding wood,
Filled with dirt and filth, carried by the river from another kingdom as it should.
"Enough is enough, we'll clean the river's muck,"
Cried the king, his voice filled with pluck.
"Whoever can come up with the best solution will be,
The one to design a new castle for me."
Sam lived farther, in a cottage by the dyke,
Words of the competition reached them alike.
Sam had two moms, as normal as can be,
Each thinking of a solution to set the canal free.
"Beep beep, come with me tomorrow, my dear,
Beep, I already have an idea quite clear,"
Said Sam's mom in red, full of grace.
So the next morning, they sat in their boat,
Gazing at a magical black box that seemed afloat.
The box was magic, for it swallowed all the grime,
In no time, the river became clean, sublime.
"Hooray, we have a winner!" the king proclaimed,
But he hadn't considered the beavers, who were shamed.
The magical black box took not only the waste,
But also the nuts, berries, and fruits, a dire taste.
No one knew why the box behaved that way,
The king realized it was an answer that couldn't stay.
Sam shared the tale with the other mom dear,
"The beavers in the forest know dirt quite clear.
Perhaps they can help and create the solution
showing everyone how to eliminate the waste."
As planned, the next morning arrived with zeal,
Sam and mom went to the river, a task to reveal.
‡
The beavers built dams under mom's guide,
Clearing the trash as they worked side by side."
If rubbish passed, they swiftly removed,
But if it was tasty, their hunger proved.
"Hooray, we have a winner," the king rejoiced once more,
Yet, this solution left some feeling sore.
The beavers' efforts, though diligent and true,
Resulted in a river resembling a garbage stew.
Their pace was slow, and disputes arose,
One's treasure was another's woes.
Weary, everyone went home that day,
Even Sam, in bed, pondered the river's gray.
Thoughts of the magical box, working so quick,
And the beavers who found goodies with a pick.
With a new idea, Sam ventured to the shore,
Opening the magical box with wisdom in store.
Asking the beavers to look inside,
and free all the treats the filters tried to hide.
The beavers worked with greater precision,
Thanks to the open box's new vision.
In no time, the river and forest were clean,
A beautiful sight, like never seen.
"Hooray!" finally exclaimed the king,
"This is the solution my kingdom needs to bring.
Those who can design my castle's grand scope,
Come forth"
Sam suggested to unite alls talents and create a castle forever,
"by simply building it all together?""
